One Last New England Tale

One story from up north I forgot to mention…

On the day of our last Connecticut show we invited the band that had been playing our last 2 events back to our hotel to hang out (3 sisters, their brother, and their parents- so don’t worry no crazy rock star stuff going on here). Now, this hotel was the “free cookie hotel” mentioned in the last post.

So I’m hanging out with the band when Chase, one of the guys on the team, calls. I tell him where we are, so he comes and meets us. After we walked the band back to their van, we stopped at the hotel snack shop because he was hungry. He can’t find anything he likes there, but he knows where there is a gas station nearby so we decide to walk there. We walk past an open McDonalds and KFC to arrive at our now closed destination. Just beyond the gas station is WalMart. Surely WalMart will have something he wants to eat. WalMart is closed. Closed?!?!?!? WalMart doesn’t even close in my sleepy little town! Get with it Connecticut!

We decided to walk back past the hotel to see what lies beyond. We had never driven that direction, so for all we knew every restaurant in the world was open 24 hours just around the bend. It wasn’t, but we didn’t know that so we kept the faith and kept walking. Finally I saw a “Welcome to Darien” sign. Followed closely by “Darien Land Rover” and “Darien Discount Liquors.” We walked the whole way to the next town!

We walked back into our hotel lobby over an hour after we left and had nothing to show for it. We ended up eating cookies in the lobby. Something we could have done in the first place.
