Top Four

Last post was my 100th blog post!  Welcome to 101.  I can’t believe I’ve only posted 100?  I feels like waaaayyyy more. But I guess you have to start somewhere.  I started this blog part way through my first of two years touring the USA and I’m now part way through my third year of sailing the Atlantic Ocean.  There have been a lot of changes for me in these four and half years and hopefully you have enjoyed my tales and adventures.
Many Cruise Directors or Directors of Entertainment like to do a segment in one of their live shows featuring the Top 10 questions they have been asked onboard.  Typically these are canned questions and everyone uses the same ones, but they always get a good response from the audience.  I’ve been asked some great questions this week that I couldn’t wait to share with you all.  Presenting Val’s Top 4:
  1. “Where is it?”  I was asked this question before we left port on the first day of the cruise.  No other information was given.  A group of guests simply approached me as they were walking up the steps to the Helipad at the front of the ship and said, “Where is it?”  “Where’s what?” was my obvious response.  “Our cabin.” they replied.  Really?  I informed them that they had to go inside the ship to find it.  Sorry, no third story walkups on this ship.  You’re actually going to have to enter the ship to find it and stop looking for your room on the outer decks.
  2. “Where am I?”  It was actually a crew member who asked this one.  She was getting off the elevator but apparently didn’t know what deck she was on.  It’s pretty typical for us to get in the crew lifts and expect it to go directly to the deck we need.  We are all genuinely surprised when it doesn’t.  To make matters worse, the crew elevator areas look identical on most decks so it can be a little difficult to tell where you are.
  3. “Can I go to the bathroom and come back?”  I was just asked this earlier today as I was walking into the ice show.  Apparently this guest and her child thought our shows were high security and would be asking for a ticket mid-way through the performance.  They are not.  They are no security actually.
  4. “Is it real ice?” So I’m cheating a bit on this one.  It was actually asked last cruise, but not to me.  I overheard a father asking his son this after the son was ice skating on our ice rink.  Believe it or not this is a pretty common question.  Is fake ice really that prevalent that people need to ask that?  Have they been tricked before expecting real ice but getting the fake stuff?  Why do people think it’s so cold in there?  Just to keep the illusion alive?
I thought there was another one, but I can’t remember it at the moment.  But I’ll be sure to post it if I remember.  Any cruise questions you’ve been wanting to ask me?  I may or may not make fun of you.  No promises.
