Walk a mile in my shoes or ride 20 hours on my bus?

We’re on our way to Michigan again for our final 2 shows before break. In my last post I mentioned that we were on our way to Charleston. We got in at about midnight, did the show on Saturday, and left at 8:45 Sunday morning. We were supposed to get in around 7 o’clock. Jack guessed 10:03, Jeff guessed midnight, I guessed 10:37 or 9 the next morning. I won…with the guess of 9 AM. Due to extensive amounts of holiday traffic and a few accidents, we were on the road until 5 am. A 10 hour trip took us 20. I have never seen so much traffic…not even in LA. It was insane.

Our trip from Colorado to Michigan was longer, but at least we were prepared for that one. Needless to say we had to come up with some entertainment on the road. We finished installing a new sound system on the bus the day we left so we had quite a few dance parties and sing-a-longs. I hadn’t been sleeping well in recent history and I decided that it probably was because I hadn’t been working out- we weren’t in hotels with fitness centers and it’s too cold in PA to run outside. To remedy that, we figured out how long the aisle in the bus is and calculated how many laps it would take to walk a mile. At about 11 o’clock Sunday night somewhere in Virginia and on a moving bus DJ (a candidate for next year’s team and a substitute for this year) and I walked 105.6 laps on the bus. After that, we danced. A few hours before that, we were stuck in traffic and DJ really had to go to the bathroom. Traffic was slow moving, but he didn’t want to go into the woods for fear that it would let up and we would have to pull over or leave him behind. Being a problem solver, he decided to open the bus doors a little and stand on the bottom step and multi-task- relieve himself while still traveling north. Of course when he first started this adventure we were barely moving…then traffic let up and we started going a little faster. Paco was keeping his distance, but hanging on to DJ’s jacket to ensure that we didn’t lose him. To his credit DJ did plan ahead- he decided to put shoes on just in case he fell out. Since it was raining at the time of the crime Jeff didn’t even make him wash off the side of the bus.

We got to the warehouse at 5 AM. I headed home and slept until about 10:30. Then I got up and came in to work. I had a nice dinner with the boys and we did some filming before I went back to bed. Even when I went to bed at midnight I still wasn’t tired, but I was sound asleep when my alarm went off this morning. Maybe I’ll walk another mile on the bus today to help me sleep.
