Chicago- A Different Experience

As predicted, I made it back to Chicago. If you’re a frequent reader, you will recall my love for the city of Chicago and particularly a little spot known as Second City. I visited both spots for a week this summer and loved it. This time, I was in the city for a couple hours and had 2 friends- Seni and Cortney with me.

I stopped in at SC to say hello to some people I met this summer. Then I took the girls over to The Mainstage to see all of the archival photos they have. Pictures of: Fey, Adsit, Murray, Colbert, Carell, Vardalos, Dratch, McBrayer, Poehler, Hunt…just to name a few. It had exactly the same feeling that it did this summer. While I was excited to be there, it was also confidence shaking. I have performed for tens of thousands of people, typically well over 1,000 a week, so why am a I nervous there? I face audiences way bigger than Mainstage performers see, and yet I question if I will ever make it. Have I made it? Is this the “it” I’ve been chasing? Anyway, it was great to be back and think about what could be, what might be, and what is.
We also partook in a activity I did not do any of while there by myself this summer- shopping! I found a sweater that I liked, but I liked it less when I saw the $250 price tag. I didn’t buy a thing- Cort and Seni both found some clearance stuff at Urban Outfitters. None of us are big shoppers, but it was too cold to constantly walk around outside so we shopped for comfort’s sake.

We had dinner at Ed Debevic’s. It’s a diner where the staff is intentionally sassy and borderline rude to the patrons. It was hilarious. Their motto is “Eat and get out!” At one point the whole staff danced to “Working at the Car wash” on the counter. We all noticed that after we left, we expected people on the street to be mean to us. Thankfully it didn’t leave the restaurant.

While looking for a train station, we found a Corner Bakery and stopped to warm up and get some dessert. We finally found the Red Line and a few stops before transferring trains, we saw Jack and Chase in the station we were leaving. We had been on the same train! Of all the trains in all of Chicago, they got off of mine. Crazy!

This trip was a completely different experience than the trip this summer. Everything wasn’t new, it was shared with good friends, and I didn’t spend most of my time in class. It was still amazing and I can’t wait to go back!
