Quick St. Maarten Post

Greetings from the friendly island! I hope all of my northern friends are enjoying their snow storms. It seems that you are in the middle of the storm of the century every turnaround day and I sail through it. It’s time for that to stop. If it makes you feel any better I have gotten a tan (well for me, a burn) this cruise or last cruise. I have high hopes for the end of this cruise and next cruise.

I went ice skating again last night. I played a little hockey too. The second time on skates is the right time to add the hockey element, right? In the middle of skating one of my friends, the sound tech in the theater looked at me and said, “You know we could have worse jobs. St Thomas today, ice skating tonight, St Maarten tomorrow.” How true it is… Not a bad life at all.

There hasn’t been a lot of excitement in my life since my last post. We have a new guy in our department and most of my time has been spent training him. I’ve been working WAY more than usual…which I guess isn’t bad since I don’t usually work that much, it’s just kind of a downer since I’m really not used to working. In good news I got a good comment on the guest surveys this week. It’s really unusual for techs to get mentioned by name, but they were Steeler fans so we had a special bond.

My aunt and uncle and grandma and grandpa were out to see me on turnaround day. It was great! I even love the phone calls and emails from back home, but a visit is so much better. I really didn’t have much to show them- I gave them the tour in December. But it was just great to spend time with them.

I’ve been spending more time with the theater techs and don’t tell them I told you, but they’re all a bit older than me. So the maturity upgrade has been nice. A lot of ship staff never graduate from the college mentality if they go right from school to ships. I’m not sure if I ever had a college mentality so it was socially difficult for me here at times.

Things seem to be going quite well at the moment. I have roughly 75 days left in my contract and then I must decide what comes next. Your prayers and suggestions are welcome.

I will probably post again when I’m in San Juan at the end of the cruise. I’ve found a great fro-yo/wifi spot that I will now frequent there.

Happy weekend!
